GiftBoard is a mobile application to save items to a Wishlist that your friends and family can access. You or your family are able to purchase the items from the GiftBoard Wishlist.
Giftboard is a product I was able to work on with the UX Designer to start and complete the UI for the MVP of the mobile iOS and Android application of GiftBoard. I was also given the task of managing and developing the print/marketing collateral in order to present the product to clients. The app is in development.
I started the process by creating a symbols library in sketch - an atomic design library. It was very important to the senior UX designer and myself to keep the whole process structured and organised. We had seen the chaos that came from a previously unstructured product design, so we wanted to learn from the mistakes. It was necessary in the initial stages for me to put time aside to develop an easy to use symbols library that was to be shared with any future designers on the project and to help the developers with the assets.
Feature by feature
Once the atoms had been designed, it was just a matter of taking the process step by step and rolling out the bigger assets to form the designs for each screen. We started with the iOS designs and worked down the feature list. The wireframes that were provided to me from the senior UX designer were very easy to work from and I was mentored through various steps in the UI process.
The process of working through the wireframes to UI designs was fairly seamless and we didn't encounter many hurdles.
When the UI had been completed and gone through a feedback session, I moved onto a prototype. I used invision for this, as I found the craft plugin for sketch very clunky to use - perhaps too many screens?
This was a very satisfying part of the process to see the working protoype and app in action. We were then able to demo the app to the investors.
Print and Digital components
Once GiftBoard's UI had been completed for the time being, I was moved onto creating the GiftBoard marketing collateral. This was to be a cohesive brand design to rollout the following projects :
- Gift Packaging for the different vendors in collaboration with GiftBoard.
- Brand Stationery (Business Cards, letterheads)
- Gift cards
- Gift brochures
- Calendars - for GiftBoard events
- EDM designs
- Initial Sales Brochure, worked with project manager who supplied text to work with - view here
I used mostly Adobe illustrator for these projects.
